Communities Come Together to Stamp Out Hunger
When communities unite to help their neighbors, the impact can be extraordinary.
On May 9, residents across Michigan participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive, resulting in more than 120,000 pounds of food collected for The Salvation Army food pantries throughout the state.
Corps community centers in Adrian, Alma, Bay City, Cadillac, Dearborn Heights, Downriver, Holland, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, Niles, Royal Oak, Saginaw, Sault Ste. Marie, Sturgis and Warren received nonperishable food donations that will help stock pantry shelves and support local individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

Since its launch in 1993, Stamp Out Hunger has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, collecting millions of pounds of food annually. The simple concept encourages residents to leave bags of nonperishable food by their mailboxes, where letter carriers collect and deliver donations to local food banks and community organizations.
The need remains significant. According to Feeding America, more than 1.5 million people in Michigan face hunger, including more than 400,000 children. That means approximately 1 in 6 Michiganders may not know where their next meal will come from.
Every can, box and bag donated through Stamp Out Hunger will stay in the community where it was collected, helping neighbors facing difficult circumstances. The same is true for monetary gifts made to The Salvation Army—every dollar stays in the community where it's raised – supporting food assistance and other critical services for those in need.

Thank you to the National Association of Letter Carriers, participating postal employees and everyone who donated to make this year’s food drive a success.
