Great Lakes Ace Hardware Fan Drive Raises More Than $40,000 to Help Metro Detroit Families Stay Cool
As temperatures climb across Southeast Michigan, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is grateful for a new partnership that is already making a meaningful difference for local families.
Thanks to the generosity of Great Lakes Ace Hardware customers, associates and community supporters, this year's Fan Drive raised more than $40,000, helping fund the purchase of 2,089 box fans for individuals and families throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
This was the first year The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit partnered with the hardware chain and the results exceeded expectations. The campaign demonstrated the power of neighbors helping neighbors and how businesses and community members can come together to support those in need.
Michigan summers can bring prolonged periods of high temperatures and humidity. For households without air conditioning, staying cool can be both difficult and expensive. Seniors, children, individuals with chronic medical conditions and families experiencing financial hardship are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
The funds raised through the Fan Drive will help ensure that thousands of families will have access to a box fan during the hottest months of the year.
