Please note: if you have a teen (13-17) or are requesting a food basket, there will be an additional form in the application that you will have to fill out. 

Christmas is quickly approaching! We wanted to share that The Salvation Army Traverse City will be accepting Holiday Assistance applications, November 3 - December 2, 2025. If you or someone you know needs a helping hand this holiday season, please review the guidelines below.

WHO can apply for assistance?

  • Households that have NOT applied for holiday assistance elsewhere (A child may not be registered with more than one area program)
  • Serving residents of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, and Benzie Counties

WHAT assistance is available?

  • Christmas Toys and Gifts (children ages infant -17)
  • Thanksgiving or Christmas Holiday Food Baskets for households with or without children.

HOW do I qualify for assistance? 

The following documentation must be uploaded during the online application and presented at the time of in-person registration. 
Documentation:  

  • Picture ID for all household members ages 18 and up is required. 
  • Proof of current physical address.
  • One ID for EACH child being registered that shows the birth date
    (Examples: Birth Certificate, Shot Record, or School Record). *Social Security Cards are not accepted

Verification of Income: 

  • Verification of income is required; it must display all household income for the last 30 days. 
    (Paystubs – if no income, DHHS award letters)  
  • Tax forms or a bank statement are accepted to verify the income for the self-employed 
  • Families up to the 150th percentile of the 2025 federal poverty level are eligible for assistance.   

WHEN can I apply? 

Angel Tree Holiday Assistance Registration 

ONLINE Registration: November 3 through December 2, 2025 (online registration is open 24/7)
IN-PERSON Registration: Thursday, November 13th - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at The Salvation Army Community Center, 1239 Barlow St. Traverse City.


Holiday Food Baskets - FOOD ONLY (There is NO online application for food only) 
Applications are accepted Monday - Friday from 9 AM - 4 PM at The Salvation Army Community Center, 1239 Barlow St., Traverse City,

Thanksgiving Community Meal
The Salvation Army invites the community to join them in friendship, fellowship, and Thanksgiving during The Salvation Army Thanksgiving Community Meal, Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Join us for a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.

Christmas Community Meal
The Salvation Army Traverse City invites you to join us for our Christmas Community Meal on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. from 11:00 to 2:00. A traditional Christmas meal will be served Dine-In or To-Go at The Salvation Army Community Center.  

Come one, come all, in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the gift of friendship and fellowship.
