What started out as a cool and rainy day turned into a perfect sunshine filled afternoon at the annual Tulip Time Quality Car Wash Volksparade May 9 in Holland, Michigan.

Great Lakes Division divisional leaders, Lt. Colonels Steve and Christine Merritt, Majors Andrew and Melissa Shiels and Holland Corps Officer Captain Matt Winters walked ahead of The Salvation Army float as it made its way along the parade route.

Holland Corps Officer Haylee Winters and The Salvation Army Brass Band rode on the float, along with the Winters’ two daughters who were dressed in traditional Dutch clothing.

The Tulip Time Festival began in 1929, when the City of Holland celebrated the blooming of its first 100,000 tulips. Only seven years after that tradition began, the Salvation Army started its work in the Holland Community.

Today, Holland bursts into bloom each spring with millions of tulips, making it one of the most photographed and celebrated tulip festivals in the United States. Over the decades, Tulip Time has grown far beyond a flower festival, offering unforgettable family-friendly events, cultural experiences, and live entertainment for visitors of all ages.
