Purposed Empowered Appreciated Respected Loved, or PEARL Essence for short, is an outreach initiative based in the Greater New York Division of The Salvation Army. This initiative is dedicated to supporting individuals in settings where there is an increased risk for trafficking and exploitation. These settings include illicit massage parlors, strip clubs, nail salons and outdoor brothels.

Purposed. Empowered. Appreciated. Respected. Loved.

For more than 150 years, The Salvation Army has stood firmly behind individuals impacted by trafficking and exploitation. Today, we remain fully committed to eradicating forced labor and sexual exploitation and ending sexual and gender-based violence. In Greater New York, we created PEARL Essence (Purposed, Empowered, Appreciated, Respected, Loved) to offer first-step services to empower women who are highly vulnerable to trafficking due to their immigration status, extreme poverty, and lifelong trauma.
