Des Moines, IA: Iowa Capital Area Command Office Assistance Programs Information
The Salvation Army of Des Moines helps overcome poverty through:
Pathway of Hope
- Pathway of Hope population served: The goal of Pathway of Hope is to guide families living in Polk, Warren and Dallas counties with children 18 years and younger through crisis and instability to a place of security in order to ultimately break the generational cycle of poverty.
- Pathway of Hope program strengths: We work to build a community for Pathway families, enabling them to connect with and benefit from many of our programs and other community resources.

Material Assistance
- Material Assistance program strengths: A parent shouldn't have to choose between feeding a child and paying the electric bill, but sadly, these are often the choices that people living in poverty are forced to make. Our Material Assistance program helps bridge the gap.

Stats
1 in 3
One in 3 central Iowans, including thousands in Des Moines, doesn't earn enough to cover basic expenses like food, housing and healthcare without support. Many are homeless, living in shelters and on the street. Others are one car repair or one unexpected medical expense away from a crisis.
You can help fight poverty one person at a time.
Poverty is often hidden in plain sight.
It's important to offer immediate, short-term assistance to those struggling to survive. But we also know it's critical that we work to identify and address the root issues that cause poverty, like addiction, homelessness, job loss, lack of education, discrimination and many other factors in order to halt the cycle that perpetuates from one generation to the next.
