Welcome to the website of The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division (“The Salvation Army,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

These Terms and Conditions govern your access to and use of the North and Central Illinois Division website, including webpages, landing pages, forms, features, and other online services made available through the website (collectively, the “Website”).

The Website is operated by or on behalf of The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division, a division of The Salvation Army Central Territory.

By accessing or using the Website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and to our applicable Privacy Policy, as well as any other policies or notices posted on the Website. If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, please do not use the Website.

1. Purpose of the Website

The Website is provided to inform the public about The Salvation Army, its mission, programs, services, events, volunteer opportunities, fundraising activities, community resources, and other activities conducted or supported by The Salvation Army.

The information presented on the Website is intended for general informational purposes. Program availability, eligibility requirements, locations, hours, events, services, and other information may change without notice.

The Salvation Army does not guarantee that every program, service, event, resource, or opportunity described on the Website will be available at all times or in every location.

2. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Website only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

You may not:

  • Use the Website for any unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, abusive, or unauthorized purpose.

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Website, its servers, systems, databases, accounts, or networks.

  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation, security, or availability of the Website.

  • Introduce viruses, malware, malicious code, or other harmful material.

  • Use automated systems, bots, crawlers, scrapers, or similar technologies to access, copy, monitor, or collect information from the Website in a manner that places an unreasonable burden on the Website or violates applicable law.

  • Impersonate The Salvation Army, its employees, officers, representatives, volunteers, affiliates, or other persons or organizations.

  • Submit information that is knowingly false, misleading, defamatory, abusive, threatening, or unlawful.

  • Use the Website or its forms, links, content, or functionality to distribute spam or unsolicited commercial communications.

  • Attempt to manipulate, interfere with, or circumvent Website security, tracking, analytics, advertising, donation, registration, or other technical systems.

  • Use the Website in a manner that could damage, overburden, disable, or impair the Website or interfere with another person's ability to use it.

We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the Website or any portion of it when we believe that these Terms and Conditions or applicable law have been violated.

3. Paid Advertising and Advertising Campaigns

The Salvation Army may promote the Website, individual webpages, landing pages, programs, services, events, donation opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and other content through paid advertising and digital marketing channels.

These channels may include, without limitation, Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Meta advertising, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube advertising, display advertising, social media advertising, search advertising, remarketing or retargeting campaigns, sponsored content, and other advertising platforms or networks.

3.1 Advertising Traffic

You may arrive at the Website through a paid advertisement, sponsored link, search advertisement, social media advertisement, or other promotional campaign.

A webpage or landing page may therefore contain information, calls to action, forms, donation opportunities, event information, or other content specifically associated with an advertising campaign.

The fact that you reached the Website through a particular advertisement does not create a contractual relationship between you and the advertising platform, nor does it constitute an endorsement by The Salvation Army of the advertising platform itself.

3.2 Campaign Measurement and Attribution

When permitted by applicable law and our Privacy Policy, The Salvation Army and its service providers may use technical information, cookies, pixels, tags, identifiers, URL parameters, analytics technologies, and similar technologies to:

  • Measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns;

  • Determine whether an advertisement resulted in a visit, donation, registration, inquiry, volunteer request, or other action;

  • Understand how visitors interact with advertising landing pages;

  • Measure website traffic and conversions;

  • Improve advertising campaigns and Website content;

  • Prevent fraudulent or invalid advertising activity; and

  • Generate aggregated or de-identified reporting about advertising performance.

Advertising and analytics technologies may be provided by third-party platforms or service providers. These may include advertising, analytics, social media, fundraising, and technology providers.

The use of these technologies and any personal information collected through them is governed by our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, our cookie-management tools or other applicable privacy notices.

3.3 Third-Party Advertising Platforms

When you interact with an advertisement on a third-party platform, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, YouTube, or another advertising network, your interaction may also be subject to that platform's own terms, privacy policy, cookie policy, and other policies.

The Salvation Army does not control the privacy practices, security practices, policies, availability, or functionality of third-party advertising platforms.

You should review the applicable policies of any third-party platform you use.

3.4 Advertising Links and Landing Pages

Advertising may direct you to a specific Website page, landing page, form, donation page, registration page, or another online resource.

Advertising URLs may contain campaign identifiers, referral information, or other parameters used to measure the source and effectiveness of website traffic. These parameters generally do not change the substantive terms governing your use of the Website.

The Salvation Army may modify, discontinue, redirect, or remove an advertising campaign or landing page at any time without notice.

3.5 No Guarantee of Advertising Results

The Salvation Army does not guarantee that:

  • An advertisement will be displayed by a third-party advertising platform;

  • An advertising platform will deliver a particular number of impressions, clicks, visitors, donations, registrations, or other actions;

  • A particular advertisement will remain available for any particular period;

  • Advertising platforms will operate without interruption or error; or

  • Advertising campaign information, targeting, reporting, attribution, or performance data supplied by a third party will be complete or error-free.

Third-party advertising platforms may independently determine whether, when, where, and to whom advertisements are displayed.

3.6 Advertising Fraud and Manipulation

You may not intentionally generate fraudulent or artificial traffic, clicks, conversions, form submissions, donations, registrations, or other interactions for the purpose of manipulating advertising performance, analytics, fundraising results, or other Website metrics.

This includes, where applicable, the use of bots, scripts, automated clicking systems, click farms, deceptive redirects, artificial traffic sources, or other methods intended to generate invalid activity.

We reserve the right to investigate suspected fraudulent or abusive activity and to take appropriate action, including restricting access to the Website, rejecting or reversing transactions where permitted by law, or reporting suspected unlawful activity to appropriate third parties.

4. Information Submitted Through the Website

Certain portions of the Website may allow you to submit information, including through contact forms, donation forms, registration forms, volunteer applications, event forms, newsletter subscriptions, surveys, or other features.

You agree that information you provide will be accurate and not misleading and that you have the authority to provide any information you submit concerning another person.

The collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of personal information are governed by our Privacy Policy and any applicable supplemental privacy notices.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions replaces or supersedes the applicable Privacy Policy.

5. Cookies, Analytics, and Similar Technologies

The Website may use cookies and similar technologies to support Website functionality, analyze Website traffic, understand how visitors use the Website, improve Website performance, and, where permitted, measure or support advertising and marketing activities.

These technologies may be operated by The Salvation Army or by third-party service providers.

Information about how personal information and tracking technologies are used, including available choices regarding cookies and similar technologies, is provided in our Privacy Policy and any applicable cookie notice or consent-management tool.

By continuing to use portions of the Website where permitted by applicable law, you acknowledge that certain technologies may be used as described in those policies and notices.

6. Donations and Transactions

Certain portions of the Website may allow you to make donations, register for events, purchase goods or services, or complete other transactions.

Additional terms, disclosures, conditions, fees, restrictions, refund policies, or payment-provider terms may apply to those transactions.

Where a transaction is processed through a third-party service provider, the transaction may also be subject to that provider's terms and privacy policy.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions guarantees that a particular donation option, payment method, program designation, event, product, or service will remain available.

7. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the Website and its content—including text, photographs, graphics, logos, trademarks, service marks, videos, audio, artwork, page designs, and other materials—are owned by, licensed to, or used with permission by The Salvation Army or its affiliates and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

The Salvation Army name, trademarks, logos, service marks, and related identifying materials may not be copied, reproduced, modified, distributed, displayed, or used without appropriate authorization.

You may access and use Website content for your personal, non-commercial purposes, unless a particular item is expressly made available for another purpose.

Except as expressly permitted by law or by The Salvation Army in writing, you may not reproduce, republish, distribute, modify, publicly display, transmit, sell, license, or create derivative works from Website content.

Third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners and may be subject to additional terms and restrictions.

8. Links to Third-Party Websites

The Website may contain links to websites, services, social media platforms, applications, or other resources operated by third parties.

These links are provided for convenience and informational purposes. A link does not necessarily constitute or imply an endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, or recommendation by The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army does not control and is not responsible for the content, availability, privacy practices, security, advertising, products, services, or policies of third-party websites or services.

Your use of third-party websites and services is subject to their respective terms and policies.

9. Website Availability and Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to provide useful and accurate information on the Website. However, the Website and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Website will always be available or uninterrupted;

  • The Website will be free from errors, defects, viruses, malware, or other harmful components;

  • Website content will always be complete, current, or accurate;

  • Any particular program, service, event, location, or resource will be available;

  • Defects will be corrected; or

  • The Website will meet every user's particular requirements.

Information about programs, services, locations, hours, eligibility, events, and other offerings may change without notice.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, The Salvation Army disclaims all express or implied warranties relating to the Website and its content, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, and reliability.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to exclude or limit any warranty, right, or protection that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, The Salvation Army, its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, representatives, volunteers, service providers, and licensors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, revenue, profits, opportunities, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Website or its content.

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory asserted and whether or not The Salvation Army was advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes liability to the extent that such limitation or exclusion is prohibited by applicable law.

12. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless The Salvation Army, its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, representatives, volunteers, service providers, and licensors from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your violation of these Terms and Conditions;

  • Your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Website;

  • Your violation of the rights of another person or organization; or

  • Your fraudulent, abusive, or malicious activity involving the Website.

13. User-Submitted Content

If the Website permits you to submit comments, reviews, testimonials, photographs, stories, questions, or other content, you remain responsible for the content you submit.

You must not submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, threatening, abusive, obscene, fraudulent, misleading, invasive of another person's privacy, or infringing of another person's intellectual-property or other rights.

By submitting content, you represent that you have the rights and permissions necessary to submit it.

Where the Website expressly provides for publication or other use of submitted content, you grant The Salvation Army the rights reasonably necessary to operate the applicable Website feature and use the content for the purposes described when you submit it.

We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to remove or restrict access to submitted content that we believe violates these Terms and Conditions or applicable law.

14. Children's Use of the Website

The Website is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in circumstances where parental consent is required by applicable law.

Certain programs, events, or services operated by The Salvation Army may be specifically designed for children or families. Additional notices, registration requirements, or parental-consent requirements may apply to those programs.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact us using the Contact Us page.

15. Privacy

Your use of the Website is also subject to our Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Policy describes how The Salvation Army collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects personal information and describes certain choices and rights available to visitors.

Our Privacy Policy may also address cookies, analytics, advertising technologies, third-party service providers, and information used to measure or support digital advertising.

In the event of a conflict between these Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy concerning the treatment of personal information, the Privacy Policy will control with respect to that subject matter.

16. SMS / MMS Messaging

If you voluntarily subscribe to receive SMS or MMS messages from The Salvation Army Central Territory or one of its participating programs, additional mobile messaging terms may apply.

Please review our territorial SMS / MMS Messaging Terms and Conditions before subscribing to or using any Salvation Army text-messaging service.

Those terms address matters including message frequency, message and data rates, opt-out instructions, help information, and supported carriers. The current Central Territory SMS Terms provide that recipients may text STOP to 52648 to stop receiving messages and HELP to 52648 for additional information.

17. Changes to These Terms

The Salvation Army may update or modify these Terms and Conditions from time to time.

When changes are made, the revised Terms and Conditions will be posted on the Website with an updated effective date.

Your continued use of the Website after revised Terms and Conditions are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms and Conditions to the extent permitted by law.

18. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable to the operation of The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division and the Website, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

Any dispute arising from or relating to your use of the Website will be subject to the jurisdiction of courts having appropriate jurisdiction, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

19. Severability

If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is determined to be unlawful, invalid, or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the fullest extent permitted by law and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

20. No Waiver

The failure of The Salvation Army to enforce any provision of these Terms and Conditions does not constitute a waiver of that provision or of the right to enforce it in the future.
