How We Help Cure Hunger
Food & Family Pantry and Doing the Most Good Market | By Appointment Monday-Friday from 1pm to 3pm; Walk-ins 3pm to 3:30pm most weekdays (as staffing allows)
Our food & family pantry helps bridge the gap by offering nutritional staples -- including canned goods, and packaged foods -- personal care items like diapers, toilet paper, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene products and meat (which in stock) to those struggling to find the means to provide adequate food and household supplies for themselves and their families. Residents of Story County are eligible to visit the food pantry once every 30 days.
First-time visitors to the food pantry should check in at the front desk and bring:
- a photo ID
- proof of Story County residence (lease agreement, electric bill, etc., that's not addressed to a P.O. Box or a letter from the Department of Health and Human Services).
For subsequent visits to the pantry or market, only a photo ID is required.
In our Doing the Most Good Market, we offer fresh produce, dairy, eggs and bread as well as salads and pre-made sandwiches. In order to be able to shop at the market, individuals must also have used the food pantry during the month. Clients are welcome to visit the Doing the Most Good Market once between Monday and Thursday and then again on Friday if needed.
We are proud to partner with Food Bank of Iowa, Walmart, Fareway, Kum & Go, Plant A Row, Mustard Seed Community Farm, Mary Greeley Medical Center, the United States Postal Service, United Way of Story County, the City of Ames, Story County and other individuals and clubs in our county that support our food pantry and market.
