Emergency Disaster Services

The Disaster Services in Wausau (Marathon County) is very active in assisting the local fire and police departments and helping survivors of disasters.

The red shield continues to be a beacon of compassion; of immediate aid, psychological support, and spiritual counsel to individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted or shattered by forces beyond their control.

History of Emergency Disaster Services

The Salvation Army first began providing aid to disaster survivors following the devastating hurricane that struck Galveston, Texas, in September 1900, which destroyed much of the city and claimed thousands of lives.

Since that time, The Salvation Army has responded to countless natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest incidents, and acts of terrorism.

Through the provision of food, beverages, and emotional and spiritual support, The Salvation Army aims to bring hope and comfort to first responders and survivors facing extraordinarily challenging circumstances.
