Backpack Program
Faith House Backpack Program Information
Fighting Hunger, One Backpack at a Time
Each week, the Burnett County Salvation Army provides 100 backpacks filled with nutritious food to children in need across Grantsburg and Siren. These backpacks are packed by dedicated volunteers and sent home with students every Friday, helping ensure they have access to meals over the weekend.
Every backpack includes dinner, breakfast, a fruit, a vegetable, a snack, and - once a month - a milk coupon. These essential items help bridge the weekend gap for children who rely on free or reduced-price meals at school during the week.
Before the Backpack Program was introduced, teachers and school staff noticed students returning on Mondays hungry, tired, and often visiting the nurse's office with stomachaches. Many struggled to concentrate in class. Now, thanks to this vital program, students are returning to school ready to learn - with fewer distractions caused by hunger.
How the Backpack Program Helps
The Backpack Program supports families by reducing weekend food insecurity. It provides not only meals for students but also a bit of relief for their households. By meeting this basic need, the Burnett County Salvation Army is helping children focus on what matters most: learning and growing.
Each Backpack Contains:
- Dinner
- Breakfast
- Fruit
- Vegetable
