Puyallup Valley Corps Community Center’s Poverty Services

At The Salvation Army, we help individuals and families in our area overcome poverty and achieve housing and food security. Our local office provides a range of programs and services designed to address the root causes of poverty and help people build better futures.

Utility Assitance

We can assist with Puget Sound Energy (PSE) utility bills, but assistance is only available from January - July.

Puget Sound Energy

All assistance is limited to $600.00 maximum per household. To receive this annual assistance from PSE, you must live in Pierce County and provide:

  • A copy of the shut-off notice (Urgent, Final, Disconnect) or an "Assistance Provider" notice. If one of these documents is not provided, we will not be able to assist you;
  • Current and valid photo ID (or photocopies of the IDs) for all adults in the household age 17 and older;
  • Separate proof of address for anyone 17 years or older in the household;
  • Proof of all income coming into the home (pay stub, award letter, unemployment, etc.)

Please note: Prior to applying for Warm Home Fund assistance, contact your local federal energy assistance provider LIHEAP (www.liheap.org) and/or PSE HELP at (855)-798-4328 in order to apply for assistance and maximize the financial assistance you are able to receive.

  • Customers on the Budget Payment Plan who have received a "Budget Removal" warning on their bill may also qualify for assistance.
  • You may need to pay deposit fees for service turn-on.

Shelter

The Salvation Army Puyallup Corps does not offer shelter services, but these are a few shelter options nearby:

  • Tacoma Jarvie Memorial Family Lodge 253-572-8452 Ext. 127
  • Olympia Center of Hope (360) 352-8596
  • Seattle (206) 381-5707
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope initiative marks a pivotal shift to focusing on the core causes of poverty rather than treating the symptoms. Lack of job opportunities, unstable housing, limited access to free child care and an underserved educational environment can all be major challenges for someone looking to lead a self-sustainable life. With our help, people living in poverty can break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability and lead families down a path toward increased stability for years to come. It’s a pathway of hope for current and future generations.
