Social Service Assistance

Many families and individuals facing poverty often must make the painful choice between heating and eating — that is, they must decide whether they'll pay their bills or pay for food. Without sufficient funds, many are forced to go without a warm, nutritious meal in order to keep a roof over their head. This program assists individuals and families with food assistance, hot meals, clothing, and furniture vouchers (when applicable).

Utility Assistance

The Salvation Army Utility Assistance Program helps with Enbridge Gas, Rocky Mountain Power, and Salt Lake City Water Corporation. These programs assist elderly, disabled individuals, veterans, and low-income families with past due bills or to prevent disconnection.

Program Schedule

Timezone: -07:00 USA Mountain Time (DST)
Location: Salt Lake City Corps

Our utility assistance programs help cover part of, or all, a utility bill for qualifying low-income households. We work directly with utility provides to help apply direct funds. These are secondary programs to the government-funded HEAT program.

Please contact the Corps office as each utility program (gas, electricity, water) has different program requirements. Each assistance is available only once per year, per household.

Please allow up to three business days for staff to contact you, after you submit your information.

Choose the items that you need, and prefer, by visiting our client-choice pantry. Help us reduce food waste by taking what you will use, instead of a pre-made food box. Be guided round the pantry, and assisted with your cart, by a helpful volunteer.

All. Each household may visit the pantry twice per calendar month.

On your first visit, please provide IDs that show the date of birth for every member of your household

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope initiative marks a pivotal shift to focusing on the core causes of poverty rather than treating the symptoms. Lack of job opportunities, unstable housing, and an underserved educational environment can all be major challenges for someone looking to lead a self-sustainable life.

With our help, people living in poverty can break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability and lead families down a path toward increased stability for years to come. It’s a pathway of hope for current and future generations.
