The Salvation Army is committed to empowering young people and providing them with opportunities to thrive. Our local youth programs offer a variety of activities and services designed to inspire, educate, and support young people.
Sally's House is an emergency receiving facility for children 2 to 12 years of age who are removed from their home due to abuse (physical or sexual), neglect, abandonment, or criminal activity. Children are only brought to Sally's House by local law enforcement or Child Protective Services. Sally's House provides a caring, safe, and loving home for up to 20 children at one time.
These children can stay for up to 90 days (with an option for a court-ordered extension), while the Department of Children and Family Services has time to find a relative or appropriate foster placement. While at Sally's House, children receive love, guidance, one-on-one attention, and basic necessities.
Children can also attend their school of origin or participate in preschool at Sally's House. Children receive tutoring, reading assistance, and life skills during their stay.
Average Length of Stay: 45 days
Since opening in 2002, Sally's House has served 818 vulnerable children and provided 116,068 safe beds to sleep in.
Since 2018, The Salvation Army Spokane has partnered with the Washington State Children’s Administration to serve state-dependent youth (ages 12–17) and emerging adults (ages 18–20) through six emergency and temporary foster-care placement beds.
Evangeline’s House provides 1 to 60 days of urgently needed, safe, and compassionate shelter for vulnerable residents who have been removed from multiple homes or organizations due to safety or behavioral issues and have nowhere else to go in Spokane County. There is a critical need for this service in our community.
Currently, the only other placement options for these youth and emerging adults are either at the Crisis Residential Center or in a hotel unit staffed by Children’s Administration. We believe Evangeline’s House provides a more caring, personal, and loving setting until a more permanent placement option is secured.
The program is intended to be short-term, providing the shortest stay needed to stabilize or place youth or emerging adults in their identified long-term resource. While at Evangeline's House, staff provides support, counseling, and compassion so that guests can navigate life more effectively.
Average Length of Stay: 45 days
Since opening its doors in 2018, Evangeline's House has served 566 vulnerable youth and emerging adults and provided 9,143 safe bed nights.
