Honoring and Supporting Mothers
This Mother’s Day, we honor mothers who keep showing up through all of life’s challenges, and the support that helps them find stability, healing and hope.
Finding Stability
“Giving up or being discouraged was never an option.”
Everything changed for Vernice, a single mother of 5, when she found a safe place to live.
After losing her home while battling sickle cell anemia, Vernice came to The Salvation Army looking for help. More than anything, she needed a place where her children could feel safe and where she could begin to catch her breath.
That stability made all the difference. With people beside her who truly cared, Vernice was able to begin rebuilding her life and creating a secure future for her family.
Today, she has not only found stability, but purpose. She now helps others who are facing similar challenges, offering hope and encouragement from someone who has been there herself.

Her turning point came when she reached out for help. With counseling, recovery programs and a community that didn’t give up on her, Tracie began the slow process of healing and rebuilding her life.
What once felt overwhelming became possible. Today, she is living in recovery, showing her family what strength and perseverance can look like and proving that change is always possible.

“They have completely changed our life from what it once was, and we’re so grateful.”
When a fire broke out near her apartment, Stephanie, a single mother of two, rushed her children to safety. Within minutes, The Salvation Army was there offering immediate support.
The Salvation Army continued to provide support long after the fire, even making it possible for Stephanie’s son to attend summer camp for the first time. His time away from home became an experience where he gained new confidence, new friendships and a decision to follow Christ.
For Stephanie, that experience was just as meaningful. She hadn’t been to church since before her children were born. Today, she and her kids attend regularly, finding encouragement and community together.
