Hurricane Lowell Disaster Relief Updates
The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division activated its Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) response on September 7 as Hurricane Lowell passed near Kauaʻi and Niʻihau, causing widespread power outages, downed trees, and flooding — the latest storm to affect Hawaiʻi following Hurricane Lala just weeks earlier. EDS teams remain on the ground serving residents in Kauaʻi county refuge areas and affected communities on both Kauaʻi and Oʻahu, partnering with the National Guard on shelter feeding and reaching hard-to-access communities as recovery continues.

September 13 — The Salvation Army delivers food to storm-devastated residents, passengers (The Garden Island)
The Garden Island covered a partnership airlift with Domino’s Hawaiʻi and Rainbow Helicopters that flew 255 donated pizzas to Kauaʻi, feeding roughly a thousand people sheltering in county refuge areas and hundreds of passengers stranded in TSA lines at a power-compromised Līhuʻe Airport.
September 11 — Over 250 pizzas airlifted to help feed Kauaʻi after Hurricane Lowell (Hawaii News Now)
Hawaii News Now featured the donated pizza airlift and Salvation Army distribution effort as Kauaʻi residents continued to deal with widespread power outages in the days following the storm.
September 11 — Helicopters turn cargo service as generators, food fly to Kauaʻi to support storm recovery (KITV)
KITV rode along as Rainbow Helicopters flew donated generators from Maui to The Salvation Army’s Līhuʻe and Hanapēpē core centers, allowing kitchens to keep cooking through the power outages. Lt. Nalo Faasavalu told KITV the generators meant the organization would no longer be “cooking in the dark.” Watch the news clip
