Sacramento Workforce Development

Culinary and Construction

In concert with our commitment to improve the Sacramento community, we offer two important job training opportunities. Both programs help to meet high industry demand while transforming the lives of people who have overcome homelessness, addiction and other serious life problems—and are ready to start new, productive lives.

Construction Training Program

We have partnered with LiUNA! (Laborers' International Union of Northern America) to offer our Construction Training Program hands-on training that provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the construction trades as a career path with the Labor Union.

Culinary Training Program

Our Culinary Arts Training Program helps students develop entry-level kitchen skills so that they may successfully work in the food industry.

Sacramento, known as the Farm to Table capital, is home to hundreds of establishments in the metro area, from pop-up catering to high end restaurants. Sacramento has it all!

In partnership with industry leaders, we offer our Construction Training Program — a 4 week, hands-on training program that provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the construction trades as a career path. The program has partnered with LiUNA! Laborer’s Training Center of Northern California. Upon completion, students receive both OSHA 10 certification and Construction Trade certification cards and are ready to work. Our goal is to teach 25 students per session, or 50 students per year.

That's the idea behind The Salvation Army of Sacramento's Culinary Arts Training Program - a program that welcomes people who have struggled with homelessness and substance abuse, and gives them a unique opportunity. Through this program, they develop kitchen skills to support meaningful employment in local hospitality industries while instilling professionalism, confidence, and dignity.
