Christmas Assistance

The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command is looking for families in need of help this Christmas season. Those facing economic hardship or household crisis who have children ages birth through 12 years old (born on or after 12/1/13) may be eligible for holiday assistance this year.

Registration Requirements

• E-mail Account - You must have an email address to apply online. If you don’t already have one, free email accounts can be obtained through Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.
• Computer/Smart Phone/Tablet with Camera - You will be required to upload pictures of the documents below during your application session.

Required Documents

• Photo ID – Parents or guardians applying must provide a government photo ID.
  • Acceptable forms of government ID include Driver's License (Issued within U.S. including U.S. Territories), Non-Driver Photo ID (Issued within U.S. including U.S. Territories), U.S. Passport, and U.S. Passport Card
  • If your picture ID does not have the same exact name and address as your application, please see the proof of address requirement below.
• Proof of Address – You must provide proof of local residency (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, or Portsmouth).
  • A picture ID is acceptable ONLY if it includes the same exact name and address as your application.
  • If your picture ID DOES NOT have the same exact name and address as your application, then you must upload a copy of a utility bill, lease agreement, mortgage document, or other piece of official mail that includes both the applicant’s name and current local mailing address as it appears on your application.
  • If you are homeless/unhoused, please provide something tying you to our service area. Depending on where you are staying, we’ll consider hotel invoices, shelter letters, or a hand-written letter from friend/family member you’re staying with (plus proof of address for them).
• Legal Guardianship - You must provide documentation that verifies legal guardianship and includes the child’s name, date of birth, and parent information.
  • Birth Certificate (preferred)
  • Other government documentation so long as it includes the child’s name, date of birth, and parent information.
  • If you are not the biological parent, you must also upload custody documentation to verify legal guardianship.
