Youth Services

Offering a variety of programs and activities designed to promote the development of young people.

The Salvation Army Central Virginia Red Shield Youth Center is a place for your kids to laugh. A place to learn. A place to grow. A place to belong.

Our programming focuses on our core program areas of education, character development, health and lifestyle, arts, morality, and sports.

After school, children have a designated environment to continue their education and work on homework. Before breaking into recreational programs, children receive a nutritious snack and do devotionals as a group.

Our Summer Day Camp is designed to prevent summer learning loss. Summer learning loss stacks up from year to year, broadening the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth. We offer developmentally appropriate, project-based learning materials to help keep children educated and engaged throughout the summer.

After-school programs have been proven to foster social and academic development as programs provide safe and structured environments for kids during after-school hours, oftentimes filling the space between the end of the school day and when parents return from work.

We know that every parent wants the best for their child’s future. Sometimes, in a world filled with distractions and challenges, finding the right support system can make all the difference. From homework assistance and tutoring to encouraging higher grades and boosting motivation to team-building activities and cooperative learning experiences that help develop essential social skills, our programs are designed to empower kids to unlock their potential and thrive.
