PROGRAM OFFERS:

Holistic Care for an Ageless Mind, Body, and Spirit

Older Adult Ministries (OAM) offers engaging program activities and essential supportive services for older adults. Activities and services are easily accessible and close to home at their neighborhood Salvation Army Worship & Service Center. Activities and outreach focus on the whole person’s needs, with Christian fellowship, devotionals and prayer, praise and Biblical studies, hands-on activities, crafts & the arts, guest presenters from the community, physical fitness opportunities for every level and ability, education, and access to healthy meals with the specialized nutritional requirements of seniors in mind.

Social Circles and Social Services

Older adults often face unexpected circumstances and costs. For millions of seniors living on a fixed budget like social security benefits alone, the risks of not being able to afford safe housing, utilities, food, clothing, and medicine are very real and ever-present. Through participation in OAM, older adults in need are seamlessly guided through the social services process while enjoying the positive benefits of the program.

Senior Camp

Camp isn’t just for kids! The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division’s Camp Allegheny retreat in Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Pa. is designed to entertain, educate, and enrich the lives of all ages through the seasons. Activities are abundant and growing for seniors seeking relaxation, reinvigoration of the spirit provided by time spent in nature, and meeting new friends for fellowship. All accommodations, amenities, and transportation are provided for participants at a very affordable fixed-income budget friendly rate. Camp is a chance for seniors, some of whom are living in high-rise or condominium type facilities with little to no greenspace, to experience fresh air, a change of scenery, and a vacation they otherwise would be unable to coordinate or afford. Senior Camp is traditionally held in the late summer/early autumn months.

A Helper in Hope

The Salvation Army’s Older Adult Ministries Coordinator acts as professional liaison between seniors and access to other Salvation Army services, along with their families, caretakers, and medical providers, as an intermediary looking out for their best interests. The OAM Coordinator helps provide referrals to other agency providers, counseling, crisis intervention and meetings and follow-up reassurance calls to help OAM participants facing challenges.
