Holiday Assistance

We celebrate the birth of Christ by spreading His hope, love and joy to those who are hurting during the holidays and throughout the year.

Project Bundle-Up

Since 1986, project Bundle-Up has raised $15 million and provided new winter outerwear to over 280,000 children and senior citizens in low income households across Western PA. It’s much more than just keeping warm… it’s about growing kids’ self-esteem and giving them the confidence to excel in the classroom.  Click here to visit the project Bundle-Up website.

Angel Tree and Adopt A Family

We put new clothes and toys under the tree for thousands of children who usually have to go without Christmas gifts. Anonymous donors adopt individuals and families to help make the season brighter for both the gift giver and receiver. Click here to learn more.

Holiday Meals and Food Assistance

From hosting sit-down Christmas dinners, to delivering meals to stocking food pantries, we give the gift of a full stomach to our neighbors in need across 28 counties in Western Pennsylvania. The Salvation Army makes sure individuals and families in need and those without a home for the holidays have something to eat. Throughout Allegheny County in November and December The Salvation Army prepares and distributes meals and turkeys, as well as grocery store gift cards and nonperishable food baskets. We encourage individuals and families seeking assistance to reach out to their local Salvation Army.

Utility Assistance

The Salvation Army helps struggling households pay their utility bills, offsetting the added financial burdens that come with Christmas expenses and keeping the heat on during those cold winter nights. This allows low-income families to maintain self-dignity and stability while keeping up with their bills.

Sheetz For the Kidz

This program provides underprivileged children the opportunity to celebrate the holidays with new toys, clothes and other basic needs. Sheetz employees shop, wrap and host parties for all the participating children and families. Over $1.4 million worth of items was distributed last year, making the holiday brighter for more than 8,800 children across six states.

Holiday Events

We spread Christmas cheer each holiday season through traditions such as hospital visits, nursing home events, meal delivery, bell ringing, gifting programs, and clothing and Christmas toy donations. This gives the gift of hope and relief to low-income families, shut-ins, children of prisoners, and those without a home for the holidays.

Give the Gift of Hope

Give the Gift of Hope

In a typical year, The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program puts new clothes and toys under the tree for 1 million children who usually must go without Christmas gifts. Anonymous donors adopt these little “angels” in an expanding Christmas tradition that makes the season more rewarding for the gift giver and happier for the receiver. This year, please consider taking a few more angels off the tree or donating gifts in bulk.
