The Salvation Army uses the Housing First, an evidence-based practice model, to assist clients to obtain housing quickly, increase self-sufficiency, and remain housed.
-
- Through the Housing First model, it strives to prioritize permanent housing to those experiencing homelessness to end the homeless episode.
- The theory is to first address get a family/individual into a home and then start to address other barriers that affect their ability to remain in housing.
- Client choice is valuable in selection of Housing and by exercising this choice, they are more likely to be successful and remain in housing.
- This model can serve as a platform from which a person can pursue their own personal goals and improve their quality of life in a stable environment.
