Children's Center Highlight

Casa Hogar Children's Home - Mazatlán, Mexico

Casa Hogar started in 1965. Hogar is the Spanish word for home, and the home atmosphere is very important. Here the children find new family. The children are placed through Social Services, and often come from extremely difficult situations. However, with time they find healing and even happiness. The maximum occupancy for the home is 30 children, with separate dorms for boys and girls.

Education is emphasized at Casa Hogar. This is very important, as Mexico does not have strict consequences for failing to send your child to school, and many children don't attend at all or drop out at an early age. For children at Casa Hogar, school and homework time are integral parts of their day. They are always learning new skills such as English, embroidery, cooking or sewing. Apprenticeships are encouraged for older children. One boy had an apprenticeship at a local solar panel company.

Sports and music are vital parts of life at Casa Hogar. The children learn instruments and their native dances. They perform concerts in the community, which builds their self-esteem and raises funds for the home.

The center has a psychologist and social worker. The youth meet with them both and become stronger emotionally, socially, and mentally. Spiritual support is provided by The Salvation Army Officers at the home, as they learn Bible truths and are encouraged to make good choices for a positive life.

It is financially challenging to provide all the staff, nutritious food, transportation, and health care, as well as the developmental and recreational experiences that the children need. Therefore, we are seeking multiple sponsors for Casa Hogar. They are currently in need of a vehicle for the home, and we hope to do a small project for that. Perhaps you would like to do a one-time donation toward that project.

Please view the link for a video about Casa Hogar. Watch to the end, for a resounding thank you from the children! Thank you for considering sponsorship.
