Shib
The Salvation Army Others Trade For Hope program helped Shib to be productive despite his disability.
Read Shib's story
My name is Shib. I used to be a driver, but was in a road accident that injured my spine. I became permanently disabled. It is difficult for me to walk and to speak clearly. The Salvation Army Corps officer in my community came to visit me, and began looking for ways that he could assist me. I am the main bread-winner in my family. I was good at tailoring before the accident, so when the Others group in Sankerpur began making the hearts for Others, I was asked to do the sewing of the hearts. I have my own machine and can do this work from my home. I am very proud that I can still be productive despite my disabilities and that Others has given me that chance.

Nipa
When I am stitching the hearts, I feel great joy in my heart.

My name is Nipa and I am 20 years old. I am married with a five year old son. My husband works as a garment worker in Dhaka, which requires him to be away from home and pay rent in Dhaka. He is only able to come home every three months for one week at a time.
When my husband was not employed we had to take a loan out to survive. Working with Others has allowed us to pay off our loan in full and now I am able to care better for my son.

Ferida
I am proud of what I have already accomplished and I know I can do more as I continue to work hard.
Read Ferida's story
My name is Ferida and I am 22 years old. I have a five-year-old son. My husband recently took a job in Kuwait. It was expensive to get the visa and airfare, but he is committed to staying there five years with the sole purpose of saving enough money to return to his family permanently and begin some type of business.
While my husband is away, I take care of our son, who is not yet in school. I have a small chicken farm to supplement my income and I make as many of the embroidered hearts as I can to bring in enough money to support myself.
I joined the Others program five months ago, and I am grateful for the opportunity to earn income and learn new skills like embroidery.
I am proud of what I have already accomplished and I know I can do more as I continue to work hard.

Our Mission & Ministry:
Our Vision
Motivated by the love of God, The Salvation Army's Sponsorship Program aims to ensure the holistic development of children. By demonstrating God's love in action, every child will be loved and valued and given the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute back to their families and communities.
Who Are the Children We Serve?
Around the world, The Salvation Army works in impoverished communities providing children affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, and trafficking with essential services and compassionate care in children's homes, schools, and community centers. We believe in the inherent value of every child and serve children in need without discrimination.
"The Salvation Army's center isn't just a place of work, or a training center. It's a place where I get my dignity. I have learned the real value of my work, and I've learned how to survive in life."
