Stories That Begin at Camp

From new friendships to moments of faith and confidence, these are the experiences that shape campers long after summer ends.

Summer Camp

Each summer at camp, children have the opportunity not only to explore the outdoors and build friendships, but also to grow in their faith and begin life-defining spiritual journeys.

One summer during “Jesus Theater”, a Gospel presentation where campers gather to hear the message of Christ, an 11-year-old boy quietly raised his hand and said, “I want Jesus to come into my life.”

For the staff and counselors present, it was a powerful reminder of why camp matters.

Moments like this happen throughout the whole summer. Many children choose to seek Christ during their time at camp, surrounded by trusted adults and a community where they feel safe, cared for, and valued.

Camp Star Lake

The first time Djurabe came to Star Lake Camp, he was just nine years old.

That summer, a mentor introduced him to the drums and recognized a talent Djurabe hadn’t yet seen in himself. That encouragement sparked a love for music he still carries with him today.

Years later, he returned to camp as a staff member, hoping to give younger campers the same kind of encouragement that once shaped him. Now he spends time connecting with campers one-on-one, helping them discover their own gifts.

Djurabe says camp changed him in ways he never expected. He still remembers the first time he hiked to the top of the mountain at Star Lake and experienced the quiet peace waiting there. That hike is now an annual tradition where he gathers with other campers for devotions and reflects on lessons that continue to guide his life.

“We’re having fun,” he says, “but we’re also connecting with God. I feel myself growing not just as a person, but spiritually.”

Today, campers continue to experience the same mentorship, faith, and encouragement that helped shape Djurabe’s life. And he wants you to know something:

Because of your contributions, Star Lake Camp is changing lives. And you are the reason why.

Thank you for helping make these life-changing experiences possible and helping create a place where children can encounter Christ, grow in their faith, and begin a lifelong journey with Him.
