Volunteer with Service Extension

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Salvation Army Service Extension volunteer. Our volunteers receive specialized training to prepare them to utilize their talents throughout various communities. Individuals or committees may volunteer in different capacities. Depending on their availability, volunteers may provide emergency assistance and/or seasonal assistance as well.

Service Unit Representative (Year-Round Position)

As a Service Unit Representative, you may be able to provide emergency clothing, food, furniture, rental/mortgage, shelter/lodging, and utilities assistance for people in various communities.

Seasonal Service Extension Volunteer

As a Seasonal Service Extension Volunteer, you may be able to provide individuals and families with seasonal assistance such as recruiting campers to Camp Tecumseh, organizing a back-to-school supplies initiative, and leading Christmas gift initiatives.

Red Kettle Campaign:
Kettle Manager

The Kettle Manager’s primary responsibilities include the recruitment of volunteers, scheduling, setup and takedown, driving, counting funds raised, and supporting staff.

Red Kettle Campaign:
Bell Ringer

The Bell Ringer is responsible for ringing bells at assigned locations as part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas fundraising efforts.

Volunteer Stories

Our volunteers provide hope to individuals and families who find themselves in difficult situations. They are the boots-on-the-ground, army behind the Army, who are activated in “Doing the Most Good”.

An Unexpected Flood

When an apartment complex flooded out and tenants lost everything on the first floor, we were able to help them obtain necessary furniture and food.

COVID-19 Uncertainties

One family lost significant income due to COVID-19. Our Service Unit provided gift cards to help with food, cleaning supplies, and baby items.

A Need for Shelter

After placing a homeless client in a motel through Salvation Army funding, she was able to move into her very own place.

Utility Instability

Beyond financial help, we took time to pray together. The prayer meant as much to her as the assistance.
