OMAHA, Neb. – Amid the heat wave that descended upon the metro last week, The Salvation Army of Omaha opened multiple cooling centers to help provide respite to those in need from the heat index values of 100–110 degrees.

It was the first major, multi-day heat wave of the season for the Omaha metro -- after the area had a relatively mild start to the summer.

The organization opened cooling centers in midtown Omaha at its Heritage Place building (near 36th & Cuming), and at North Corps (2401 Manderson St) in North Omaha.

Salvation Army cooling centers offer air-conditioned spaces, cold bottled water, and places to charge electronic devices during specific operating hours.  They’re typically activated during times of extremely hot temperatures.  Anyone in need of relief from the heat is welcome to stop in.

Cooling center hours generally track normal business hours – though exact operating hours vary by location.
