The Salvation Army of Omaha this week began season two of Family Meals of Hope – a community-focused dinnertime mobile-meals program.
The program debuted in 2025, succeeding the former Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen summer lunch program.
The Family Meals of Hope program serves metro families in need by bringing free, nutritious dinnertime meals directly to conveniently located public places and serving them up food-truck style. Family Meals of Hope will run each weeknight – except for holidays – during the summertime. The 2026 season officially started on Monday, June 1 and will conclude on July 31.
The program is expanding as its second season begins: there will be four service stops this year instead of three. As part of that expansion, west Omaha will now be served by Family Meals of Hope, thanks to the new service stop along 132nd St. The program will use a total of three canteens (food trucks) this season after just two canteens were used last year.
These are the 2026 season’s serving times and stops:
- Miller Park (by the splashpad area) 2707 Redick Ave – serving from 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Benson Park (by the basketball court) 5333 North 72nd St – serving from 6:45 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.
- Hitchcock Park (by the swimming pool) 4220 Q St – serving from 6 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
- Community Bible Church (in the parking lot) 3616 S. 132nd St. – serving from 6 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
What’s more, the Family Meals of Hope program will have an official sponsor for the 2026 season: Mutual of Omaha Foundation. The Salvation Army of Omaha is grateful for the foundation’s outstanding support.
Family Meals of Hope finished its inaugural season last year with 8,354 free meals served. The Salvation Army of Omaha is prepared to serve even more meals this year, as demand is once again expected to be very high.
