Food Programs
Omaha Metro Area Food Programs Information
The Salvation Army of Omaha helps feed the hungry through:
The food pantry at the Burrows Center fills more than 5,000 grocery orders each year. Clients have low to no income, and many are homeless or at risk of being homeless. The pantry offers nonperishable items, baked goods and fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring that individuals and families can gather around their tables for a nutritious meal rather than go to bed with an empty stomach.
North Corps' Community Care Kitchen serves approximately 250 hot, nutritious lunches each weekday to low-income and homeless individuals and families. This is the only daytime meal program in northeast Omaha, and for many in our community, this is their only substantial meal each day. Our warm, friendly environment also offers clients a welcome respite from their daily challenges, as well as an opportunity to connect and socialize with others.
With 75% of children in Omaha Public Schools receiving free or reduced lunch, the summer months are especially difficult for kids and their families who are at risk for hunger. To address this need, we offer Kids Cruisin' Kitchen, a summer mobile lunch program that distributes nutritious lunches to school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry when they don't have access to school lunches.
Because the homeless and hungry are especially vulnerable during the harsh winter months, the Winter Night Watch mobile food distribution makes multiple stops at areas where the homeless congregate. Between December and March every year, we distribute more than 8,000 hot meals to those in need across the Omaha metro.
