National Volunteer Week
Thank You!
Did you know that millions of people volunteer for The Salvation Army across the United States each year? Volunteers are at the heart of so much of what we do — and they come to us mainly through two channels: individual volunteers and organizational/corporate volunteers.
This year, we’ll have a special focus on individual volunteers during National Salvation Army Week in May; right now, during National Volunteer Week (April 18-24), we want to salute our organizational and corporate volunteers.
Across our three-state (Nebraska, South Dakota, and western Iowa) division of The Salvation Army, organizational and corporate volunteers work tirelessly every day to support our humanitarian mission. In the past year alone, they’ve been critically important partners in our efforts to provide relief to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, these volunteers — who typically work together as a group representing their company or organization — played a big role in helping our Omaha-based officers and staff to hand out thousands of meals to food-insecure metro-area children and their families at the height of the pandemic.
In other cases, organizational and corporate volunteers provided crucial support to our regularly scheduled, seasonal social services and outreach efforts. During the backpack drive last August, for example, a group of volunteers from PenFed Credit Union helped distribute hundreds of backpacks to families in need. Pay-LESS Office Supply workers transported material donations made during our mid-summer fan drive. In December, a consortium of local realtors hit the streets to raise thousands of dollars for The Salvation Army by ringing bells at our iconic red kettles in a city-wide, one-day event. This spring, Two Men and a Truck pledged their logistical support to a special food drive.
It all adds up to help ensure that our community-focused, people-first operations are always moving forward — no matter what the time or season.
We cannot say it enough: our corporate and organizational volunteers mean the world to us. They make a difference for us every day. We salute all such volunteers in every city and town across Nebraska, South Dakota, and western Iowa. From all of us to all of you, thank you for everything you do for The Salvation Army!
