Spread joy by donating toys

Toy-shop-1-300x200.JPGYou can spread joy this Christmas season by donating toys for local children in need.

The Salvation Army Northern Division needs enough toys for about 6,500 families in the Twin Cities – a 33 percent increase over last Christmas season – and thousands more toys for families in Greater Minnesota and North Dakota.

In North Dakota and Greater Minnesota, drop toys off at your local Salvation Army or shop online via our Angel Tree partnership with Walmart, which allows donors to purchase toys that Walmart will ship directly to your local Salvation Army.

While all donations are happily accepted, toy donations are specifically needed for boys and girls ages 3 to 5.

Toy-Kat-300x200.JPGYour generosity will give joy and to families like Kat (pictured) and Brittany – sisters who last year received donated toys for their young children. Kat and Brittany have struggled ever since their father died in 2022 and their mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2023.

“We’re single moms, paying bills,” Brittany said. “But just because we’re in poverty doesn’t mean our kids should have to struggle this Christmas.”

Added Kat: “It can be hard for people to understand the responsibilities that people like us have. They have no idea what some people are carrying.”

The Salvation Army is one of the largest providers of toys in Minnesota and North Dakota, distributing more than 165,000 toys in both states. Read about last year’s toy distribution.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being accepted now through Dec. 14 at any Salvation Army Worship and Service Center in the Twin Cities and at The Salvation Army Northern Division Headquarters in Roseville, 2445 Prior Ave. N.

The Salvation Army will distribute donated toys in mid-December to preregistered families, plus stocking stuffers, wrapping paper, and – for those who need them – basic needs items such as clothing and hygiene products.

“Parents throughout Minnesota and North Dakota will struggle to afford gifts for their children this Christmas season,” said Lt. Col. Randall Polsley, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “We kindly ask our supporters to give generously this year and spread joy. Every child deserves a toy on Christmas morning.”

This Christmas season, support The Salvation Army by giving a donation or ringing bells at a Red Kettle. Your generosity will bring joy to local families in need.
