Meet the new leaders of The Salvation Army Northern Division
The Salvation Army Northern Division is proud to introduce its new leaders, Lt. Cols. David and Darlene Harvey, who begin their new roles this month. David serves as Divisional Commander and will oversee all of our operations in Minnesota and North Dakota, while Darlene serves as Divisional Leader for Officer Development and also Administrator for our Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, Minn.
“We're honored to serve alongside the dedicated officers, staff, donors, and volunteers of the Northern Division as we continue The Salvation Army's mission of meeting human needs in Christ's name without discrimination,” David said. “We look forward to building relationships throughout Minnesota and North Dakota, and working together to bring hope and practical support to individuals and families across the region.”
The Harveys have been serving as officers of The Salvation Army for 37 years. Most recently, the couple spent five years at The Salvation Army’s Central Territory Headquarters near Chicago, Ill., where Darlene served as the Territorial Officer Resource and Development Secretary, and David served as Territorial Secretary for Business Administration, overseeing The Salvation Army’s business operations in 11 Midwestern states.
Some of the Harveys’ other notable appointments and accomplishments include:
- Leaders of the Kansas and Western Missouri Division in Kansas City, Mo., where they guided the division through the challenges of a worldwide pandemic.
- Oversaw the development of the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Chicago, which grew to more than 12,000 members and 150 church members for Sunday worship.
- Served internationally in the South America West Territory as Territorial Youth Secretary and Projects officers. In this role, the couple helped fill the region’s Salvation Army training college to capacity while bringing new international support to the region.
- In Wisconsin, they led The Salvation Army’s Worship and Service Center in Green Bay, and also led the opening of a new location in the city of Oak Creek.
David has a B.A. in business administration from Asbury University, and Darlene has a B.S. in sociology and psychology from Madonna University. Both have a master’s degree in church management from Olivet Nazarene University.
The Harveys have two adult sons, Matthew and Joshua, and nine grandchildren. David’s hobbies include wood working, golfing and fishing, while Darlene enjoys reading, hiking and kayaking.
The Harveys replace Lt. Cols. Randall and Charlene Polsley, who led the Northern Division for the past three years. The Polsleys are headed to Salvation Army Central Territory Headquarters in Chicago, where Randall will serve as Territorial Secretary for Business Administration, and Charlene as Territorial Officer Resource and Development Secretary.
