Giving Hearts Day on Thursday, Feb. 12 is North Dakota’s biggest fundraising day of the year – and it just got even more exciting.

GHD-300x200.jpgAn anonymous donor has given a total of $25,000 to match gifts given to The Salvation Army’s six locations in North Dakota on Giving Hearts Day. All gifts will support Salvation Army programs that provide food, shelter and care for people and families in your community.

You can bring joy into the lives of North Dakotans in need by clicking on your community below to give a donation of any amount.

When you donate to The Salvation Army on Giving Hearts Day, your gift will provide twice the support for local families struggling against the unrelenting high costs of food, gas and housing.

Your support is desperately needed. Recent data shows that 8,000 North Dakota households are behind on their rent or at risk of eviction – with 75 percent of these households containing children. Additionally, FeedingAmerica.org reports that 79,000 North Dakotans are experiencing food insecurity, a third of whom are children.

“Some families are having to choose between paying their rent or buying groceries,” said Lt. Col. Randall Polsley, leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “Nobody should have to choose.”

Your Impact

Maija-300x200-copy.pngYour gifts to The Salvation Army on Giving Hearts Day will help people like Christopher, Maija (pictured) and their young children.

A year ago, the family was struggling to survive in deep poverty. They lived in a small town 30 minutes from Fargo, N.D., with no car, furniture, or reliable income. They faced impossible choices—like how to feed their children or afford baby supplies.

Desperate for help, they turned to The Salvation Army and enrolled in our Pathway of Hope mentorship program. With guidance from our caseworkers, the family set goals for employment, housing, and transportation—and achieved all three.

Today, the family lives in a larger home with furnished rooms, Maija works full time and was recently promoted to manager, and the family owns an SUV that gives them freedom and stability. Grateful for the support they received, Christopher and Maija now aim to become fully independent and build a better future for their children.

Giving Hearts Day is a day-long fundraiser in a partnership between the Dakota Medical Foundation and the Impact Foundation that benefits nonprofit organizations statewide. Matching gifts to The Salvation Army include $25,000 that will be split between The Salvation Army’s North Dakota locations in the following amounts: Bismarck ($4,000), Fargo ($4,000), Grand Forks ($5,000), Jamestown ($4,000), Minot ($4,000), and Williston ($4,000). Additional matching dollars may be added to each location between now and Feb. 12.
