About Cris Carter

Picture1.jpgCarter is passionate about The Salvation Army because of the help his family received from our staff, volunteers and donors when he was a child. His mother raised him and his six siblings by herself and struggled often.

“We had a lot of needs,” Carter recalled. “As young people we were looking for food to eat and clothes to wear. The Salvation Army provided for my family.”

His family overcame their hardships and went on to do great things: Four of his siblings graduated from college; his mother completed undergraduate and master’s degrees; and his brother, Butch Carter, played seven seasons in the National Basketball Association.

“The Salvation Army is by nature a humble organization, so my goal is to make sure that Minnesotans know what a quality organization they are, and that they are worthy of our support,” Carter added.

Carter was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2013 after playing in the league for 16 seasons. The most prolific work of his career was his 12 years with the Vikings from 1990-2001. He remains a franchise legend, leaving Minnesota as the team's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, among other records.
