Celebrating National Salvation Army Week in Winnebago County
The Salvation Army of Winnebago County was honored to receive a proclamation at a recent Rockford City Council meeting declaring May 11-17, 2026 as National Salvation Army Week in the City of Rockford, Illinois. It is a privilege to serve this community, and we are deeply grateful for the continued support that allows us to meet needs, offer hope, and make a difference every day. Thank you, Rockford, for standing with us.

National Salvation Army Week is more than a designation on a calendar. It is a chance to pause and celebrate what becomes possible when a community shows up for one another. Throughout the week, our team set out to mark the occasion the best way we know how: by giving back to the people who give so much to others.
Our first stop took us to the Veterans Drop-In Center in Rockford, where our team had the honor of serving lunch, sharing stories, and showing appreciation for the veterans in our community. These men and women have sacrificed so much for our country, and being able to spend time with them, listen to their experiences, and offer a warm meal was a meaningful way to say thank you.

We also brought our canteen to East High School to serve and support the incredible teachers and staff who pour into the lives of local students every single day. Empowering Youth is one of our core priorities, and that mission starts by encouraging the mentors, educators, and role models helping shape the next generation. We are grateful for all they do to inspire, guide, and care for our community's youth.

The week also gave us a chance to reflect on the collective impact made possible across Winnebago County this past year. With the support of donors, volunteers, and community partners, we fed 10,984 neighbors, served 4,276 families, and made sure 2,218 children received Christmas gifts. Every number represents a real neighbor, a real story, and a real moment of hope.

None of this work happens alone. Whether you have donated, volunteered, rung a bell, or simply shared our mission with others, you helped make this happen. Thank you for being part of it, and thank you for standing with your neighbors in Winnebago County.
There is still so much more to do, and we look forward to continuing this work together in the year ahead.
