Annual Red Kettle Campaign kicks off in St. Louis

The Salvation Army of Greater St. Louis is proud to announce radio host, author and community advocate Amy Marxkors as its 2025 Red Kettle Campaign Chair. Marxkors is an esteemed journalist and co-host of The Chris and Amy Show with Chris Rongey on KMOX Radio. She also co-hosts, with Blues broadcaster Chris Kerber, Offside Hockey with Kerbs and Amy on Matrix Midwest television.

The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign has stood as a beacon of hope and compassion for more than 78 years. Annually since 1947, a chair has been selected to support community outreach and fundraising efforts, and share in mission and ministry, during the Christmas season. Marxkors, who succeeds hometown hero John O'Leary in the role of chair, has a long-standing tradition of volunteering with The Salvation Army.

"I am truly honored to chair this year's Red Kettle Campaign and champion the efforts of The Salvation Army," said Marxkors. "Since I was a child, I've been bellringing with my family and I look forward to it every year. My brother would always ask to go see the 'God Bless You man' because every time we dropped our change in the red kettle, the gentleman there would say 'God Bless You.' Having a role in this campaign and in funding critical social services right here in St. Louis is the best way for me to give back to the community that has given me so much."

In addition to her accomplished journalistic career, Marxkors was a member of the St. Louis Blues radio broadcast team from 2016-2019, where she became the first woman to host the radio broadcast pre-game and post-game of a professional sports team in St. Louis. She is also the author of The Lola Papers: Marathons, Misadventures, and How I Became a Serious Runner (2012) and Powered By Hope: The Teri Griege Story (2014). Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, Competitor, Terrain, Ultrarunning Magazine, St. Louis Magazine, and more. She is an avid ice hockey player and marathon runner.

"From her own stories of hope and determination to the stories of faith in the books she's authored, Amy embodies the spirit of giving with joy," said Major Adam Moore, General Secretary and Greater St. Louis Area Commander at The Salvation Army. “At The Salvation Army, I like to say that it’s our simple goal to save the world. But we can’t do it alone. We depend on the generosity of the community and people like Amy who give of their time and talents and resources to ensure our most marginalized neighbors are cared for during the Christmas season and beyond. That generosity means the world to the 150,000+ people we serve annually in the metro area.

The Red Kettle Campaign officially kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 22, with the Annual Kickoff and Tree Lighting, which includes a ticketed, gala-style event at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark, and a general public viewing of the tree lighting in Kiener Plaza. This year, both the indoor and outdoor stages will also feature musical performances from international contemporary Christian artist Blessing Offor. Seasoned journalist, storyteller and blogger Chelsea Haynes will emcee the event.

Ameren is this year's Red Kettle Campaign presenting sponsor. They are joined by Edward Jones, the St. Louis Business Journal, Cass Information Systems, GardaWorld, Commerce Bank and Trust, Tarlton Corporation, Schnucks, St. Louis Magazine, the Marian Foundation, Dierbergs, the Crawford Butz Insurance Agency and Two Men and a Truck.
