Adopt-a-Family
What is the Salvation Army Adopt-a-Family Program?
Along with the Angel Tree program, the Adopt-a-Family program was created to address the needs of low-income families during the holidays and times of need. Each year The Salvation Army of St. Louis receives hundreds of applications for assistance for the Adopt-a-Family program. The families who qualify for the Adopt-a-Family program are facing significant financial hardships and they are often unable to afford a Christmas dinner, new toys and warm clothing for their children. Some are single parent families with very low income and some are of large families where a parent has been laid off from their job, have major medical expenses or facing some other significant challenge.
How Can You Help?
The Salvation Army’s Adopt-a-Family program is very rewarding and heart-warming way to help some of the neediest families in our community. Its goal is to partner with businesses, organizations, and individuals who will adopt families who demonstrate extreme and/or unique needs during the Christmas season. By participating in the Adopt-a-Family program, you can help with the needs of an entire family. You can adopt a small family, a large family or multiple families. The Salvation Army will provide the ages, sizes and wish list of each child. This is a perfect holiday project and works for any budget.
How the Program Works
Adopt-a-Family sponsors will need to complete the form linked above, specifying the size of family that they would like to adopt. Donors will then receive a small summary of the family’s current situation, a list of all members of the household, clothing sizes for all the children in the home, as well as a small wish list for each child. Donors are not expected to purchase every item on the list. Minimum (not required) for adopting a family is an outfit per child, one toy per child, and a grocery gift card for the family.
Once you complete the form linked above, you will be contacted via email and a family will be assigned to you in September or October.
