White Castle Supports The Salvation Army Through Roundup Campaign
Customers at nine White Castle locations in central and southern Indiana came together in 2025 to help The Salvation Army Indiana Division in their communities. This week the District Supervisor, Michael Tague, joined two of the participating store managers to present a check for $16,218 to The Salvation Army.
“White Castle really enjoys giving back to the community and building relationships with longstanding partners here in our communities,” Tague shared. “Every district supervisor gets to pick a charity that their stores will represent on a two-year cycle. The reason why we do two years is because we like to build different relationships and help as many different people as we can.”
The Roundup Campaign helps a charity by asking customers to round up their check to the nearest dollar during four 8-week periods over the course of two years. In the spring of 2025 White Castle raised $11,500 at Indiana stores to kick off the collaboration. When the restaurants brought the round up back in the fall, customers responded with even more generosity.
“I think the buy in is the big thing,” shared Corrina LaFord, General Manager at the White Castle in Bloomington. “If we talk to people and we tell them what The Salvation Army is doing – if you get the buy in – it’s going to work. Get some stories out there and see how important it is, and that makes it important to people, too.”
LaFord and her fellow general managers worked with staff to ensure that they understood the program and how the funds raised would help those in the greatest need right in their own communities. For many of the staff members, they knew personally just how important The Salvation Army was to their neighbors in need.
“Our community already knew about The Salvation Army,” explained Rachel Bassett, who was General Manager for the Shelbyville White Castle during the fall round up period. “Our store is a smaller little store, but I feel that our team got into it because we have a lot of younger students with parents who have used The Salvation Army for Christmas gifts. We also had a student that had bookbag issues and The Salvation Army had an event that had free bookbags.”
When it came time to choose a charity to support in 2025 and 2026, Tague didn’t hesitate to choose The Salvation Army. He credits the organization with helping his own family when his father was just a child.
“My dad grew up with four brothers and his dad got in a car accident and passed away when he was just three or four,” Tague shared. “His mom was a single mom for quite some time and if it wasn’t for The Salvation Army helping provide clothing, food, and school supplies, he said they wouldn’t have made it. Supporting The Salvation Army is near and dear to my heart.”
White Castle diners will have another chance to give back when the round up programs picks up again in March. For Tague, his GMs, and their team members, it’s another chance to make a big impact in their communities.
