We fight poverty with love

Indiana Poverty Information

The Salvation Army is active in every zip code in America to feed, shelter, assist and equip the poor.

Poverty is so often the result of - and the catalyst for - chronic struggles with hunger, addiction, housing insecurity, mental illness, educational voids and various forms of abuse. These interconnected struggles continue year after year, and often span generations. That's why The Salvation Army is working across Indiana to meet the needs of the whole person through short and long-term assistance, first alleviating the symptoms of poverty and then addressing the root issues that cause it.

The Salvation Army helps
overcome poverty through:

Food Pantry

Food boxes may include shelf-stable pantry items, breads, cereals, meat and other household necessities like diapers and bathroom supplies. For more information, contact a community and worship center near you.

Homeless Diversion and Emergency Assistance Program

When crisis strikes, it may be the result of unexpected medical expenses, job loss, or a fire or flood. The Salvation Army provides emergency assistance to help with mortgage, rent, and utility bills, as well as prescription costs and other household expenses in order to keep families in their homes when the threat of homelessness looms. Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope initiative marks a pivotal shift to focusing on the core causes of poverty rather than treating the symptoms. Lack of job opportunities, unstable housing, and an underserved educational environment can all be major challenges for someone looking to lead a self-sustainable life. With our help, people living in poverty can break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability and lead families down a path toward increased stability for years to come. It’s a pathway of hope for current and future generations.
