First Generation Hope Scholars

The scholarship funds that make up this program are intended to help Indiana students become the first in their families to pursue a higher education.

The Salvation Army First Generation Hope Scholars Program

The Salvation Army Indiana Division addresses unmet human needs every day.  Our Pathway of Hope initiative helps highly motivated families set goals that can help them break the cycle of generational poverty.  Often, these goals include educational objectives.  We believe that in today's economy, a college education is essential to maximizing financial independence in families.  On virtually every measure of well-being and career attainment, those with such an education fare better than those without.  In fact, a college education can alter the whole trajectory of a life, a family, and a community.

The Salvation Army First Generation Hope Scholars Program has been created for these very reasons.  These scholarships will provide financial assistance to hard-working individuals seeking to be the first in their families to graduate from college.  These promising students will no longer be spectators but will become achievers who can, in turn, advise and encourage others to follow their dreams as well.

The initial eligibility requirement is first-generation college status, but the application process also takes into account need, prior academic success, demonstrated commitment to overcoming barriers, and insight into the long-term benefit of degree attainment for the student, the family, and the community.

High School Counselors can obtain applications and further information by contacting Ms. Kim Ketring at (317) 490-6362.  Schools may only submit one candidate each year.
