How does the Hope Brigade Challenge Match work?
During the Hope Brigade Challenge, when you document your future estate gift to benefit The Salvation Army, we will allocate a portion of your future estate investment in your name right now, from $5,000 to $15,000. The Hope Brigade Challenge funds will be applied in your name to meet current needs in Central Indiana, while your future estate commitment leaves your legacy in an area of your choosing at The Salvation Army in the years to come.
What is the purpose of the Hope Brigade Challenge?

Your future estate gift will advance the mission of The Salvation Army for years to come, plus you will have the opportunity leverage support for our most needed causes today.

Anonymous donors have leveraged their gifts to offer $125,000 in challenge funds that will fuel Salvation Army’s strategic impact.
What is the Hope Brigade?
Your planned gift qualifies you for membership in The Salvation Army Hope Brigade. You will join others whose faithful commitment supports the future of The Salvation Army. Hope Brigade members receive an annual stewardship report and are invited to special events to learn more about the work of The Salvation Army!

How do I document my future estate gift for the Hope Brigade Challenge?
It’s simple! You can return the non-binding, one-page confirmation form with your best estimate of the value of the gift today. Attaching documentation of your gift (copy or picture of the bequest wording) from your will, trust, or other legal document is most helpful to honor your desired gift intent.
How long does the Hope Brigade Challenge Match last?
The Hope Brigade Challenge will last through December 31, 2026 or until all challenge dollars are depleted.
What gifts qualify for the Hope Brigade Challenge?
The following types of future estate gifts will be eligible for challenge dollars:
· will or living trust bequests
· charitable gift annuities
· charitable remainder trusts
· charitable lead trusts
· life insurance gifts
· beneficiary designations from retirement account
· beneficiary designations from a donor advised fund
· POD of bank or investment account
· remainder interest or TOD of real estate
· endowment
If I have already documented a future estate gift with The Salvation Army, will it qualify for the Hope Brigade Challenge?
We are grateful for all those who have included us in their estate plans over the last century. Due to limited challenge dollars and to inspire new planned gifts, the challenge dollars will only be available when a new gift is documented, or the value of a previously documented estate gift is increased.
If I designate my future estate gift to a specific fund or program, will my investment still be eligible for the challenge?
Yes. Your future estate gift can be designated to any Salvation Army area or program of your choosing, including new or previously established endowments. Only your challenge match must be applied toward our current needs in Central Indiana.
Must I document an amount of my future estate gift for the Hope Brigade Challenge?
To be eligible for challenge funds, an estimated amount of your future estate gift must be documented on the gift confirmation form.
