Ruth Lilly Women and Children's Center

The Salvation Army of Central Indiana Ruth Lilly Women and Children's Center Information

The Salvation Army Ruth Lilly Women and Children's Center provides a safe place for homeless and abused women and children in perhaps their greatest time of need. Established as one of the first facility in Indianapolis to help homeless and abused women and children, we have offered care, assistance, and guidance to women for more than 50 years. The Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our 111 bed facility features rooms for both single women and women with children.

Upon admission to the Center, the needs of a woman and her children are assessed by a case manager. Immediate medical, nutritional, and shelter needs are met. Safety and security measures allow women to focus on rebuilding their lives free of danger, continued abuse and the uncertainty of the streets. Children learn and play in a warm and nurturing environment.

Services

Crisis Intervention

Our family advocates receive continuous crisis intervention training to assist women, children and men at risk. Upon admission to the Center, care coordinators assess all clients to meet immediate needs. Helping clients attain a sense of personal safety and security
is our top priority. This allows clients to focus on rebuilding their lives one step at a time.

Anti-Human Trafficking Services

The Salvation Army Women and Children’s Center provides referrals for those seeking help, as well as intensive care coordination. We provide evidence-based and specialized care services to meet the critical needs of this vulnerable, growing population.

Pathway of Hope

Our advocates mentor families with tools for new life skills to set goals for housing, employment, budgeting, education, and transportation to break generational poverty. The goal of the program is to move from crisis to sufficiency. This is the “teach a person to fish” component of our mission.

Emergency Bed Space

The Salvation Army Women and Children’s Center continuously coordinates with the city of Indianapolis and other area shelters to ensure safe places and services are always available for individuals and their children escaping domestic abuse. We provide daily updates to service providers. If shelters are full, the Women and Children’s Center provides overflow shelter until traditional bed space becomes available.
