The Lasting Impact of Service Clubs’ Red Kettle Volunteerism

Share Story

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is synonymous with Christmas. But funds raised during that time help provide assistance to individuals and families each and every day of the year.

That ongoing support would not be possible without dedicated partners like the many Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions and Elks clubs and lodges helping communities across Michigan. Through their volunteer bell ringing efforts, these service organizations help generate funding that stays local and supports programs in the communities where it is raised.

Since partnering with The Salvation Army in 2010, Rotary clubs across Michigan have raised $919,905 as red kettle bell ringers. Kiwanis clubs have contributed $752,147, while Lions clubs have raised $385,417. The Elks, which joined the effort in 2024, have already generated more than $26,000 in support of local Salvation Army services.

Together, these organizations have helped raise more than $2 million to support year-round critical social services and programs including food pantries, utility assistance, emergency financial aid, youth programs, senior services, disaster relief and other resources for our neighbors facing hardship.

Their commitment helps ensure The Salvation Army can continue meeting needs long after the Christmas decorations are packed away. Thanks to their partnership and dedication, these service organizations are making a difference in communities across Michigan.
