LEGAL SERVICES
The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic (WBLAC) provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and families throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties. Our attorneys help clients navigate the legal system and resolve issues that affect their families, housing, and stability.
While our services depend on available resources and eligibility guidelines, the clinic assists with a wide range of legal matters.
FAMILY LAW ASSISTANCE
Family law issues can be overwhelming, especially when individuals are trying to navigate the court system without legal representation. The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic provides assistance with all types of family law matters, helping parents and families understand their rights and options.
Our attorneys and legal team assist with:
- Divorce
- Child custody
- Parenting time
- Child support
- Paternity cases
- Modifications of existing court orders
- Interstate custody and jurisdiction issues
- Friend of the Court matters
Whether someone is filing a case for the first time or responding to an existing case, our goal is to provide guidance and advocacy that helps families move toward stability and safety.
PROBATE AND GUARDIANSHIP
The clinic may also assist individuals and families with certain probate matters, including:
- Guardianship of minors
- Guardianship of vulnerable adults
These cases often arise when family members are struggling to ensure the safety and care of a loved one.
HOUSING AND LANDLORD-TENANT ISSUES
Housing instability can quickly lead to a crisis for families. When resources permit, the clinic may assist with legal matters such as:
- Landlord-tenant disputes
- Eviction issues
LEGAL CLINCS AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH
In partnership with the Wayne County Circuit Court and other community partners, the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic hosts regular family law clinics and outreach programs to help individuals better understand the legal process.
Through these clinics, attorneys and trained volunteers assist with:
- Understanding court procedures
- Completing legal forms
- Navigating custody, support, paternity, and parenting time matters
These programs allow the clinic to reach individuals who might otherwise be unable to access legal help.
WHO WE SERVE
The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic provides free legal assistance to individuals who meet income eligibility guidelines and live in:
- Wayne County
- Oakland County
- Macomb County
The clinic also assists individuals participating in The Salvation Army Harbor Light programs and has expanded services for U.S. Military Veterans in need of legal help.
