The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s 39th Annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon Raises $1,344,174 to Fight Hunger and Homelessness Across Southeast Michigan
27 hours of generosity push lifetime total raised to more than $47.4 million
The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit raised $1,344,174 during its 39th annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon, a 27-hour on-air fundraiser dedicated to fighting hunger and homelessness across southeast Michigan.
The Radiothon, held on Feb. 26- 27 and broadcast on 760 WJR, brought together the station’s on-air personalities – Chris Renwick, Lloyd Jackson, Renee Vitale, Kevin Dietz, Marie Osborne, Anthony Bellino, Lomas Brown, Mitch Albom, Steve Courtney, Ken Brown, Kevin O’Neill, Ed Kelly, Ryan Ermanni and Jamie Edmonds – to rally listeners around a shared mission of compassion and community impact.
“Hunger and homelessness are difficult realities to face, but this Radiothon reminds us that compassion is stronger,” said Major Dawn Worthy, metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division. “The generosity shown by the WJR listeners ensures that individuals and families experiencing hardship are not forgotten. Together, we are providing more than meals and shelter – we are offering dignity and renewed hope.”
Throughout the broadcast, local business and civic leaders, sports figures, celebrities and community partners joined the airwaves to encourage donations and spotlight the urgent need for food and shelter assistance. Significant contributions included:
  • Artichoke Garlic Foundation - $75,000
  • The Salvation Army Metro Detroit Advisory Board - $58,889
  • Moran Automotive - $40,000
  • Edsel B. Ford II - $40,000
  • Dick & Gail Purtan Family Foundation - $30,000
  • Tim Allen Foundation - $30,000
  • Fifth Third Bank - $20,000
  • Ford’s Garage - $12,500
  • Pat Milliken Ford - $10,000
  • National Food Group-$10,000
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate 15 years of partnership with The Salvation Army through the Bed & Bread Club Radiothon,” said Steve Finateri, regional vice president and market manager for 760 WJR. “Year after year, our listeners prove that radio has the power to unite a community for good. Congratulations to metro Detroit for stepping up in such a generous way to provide nutritious meals and a safe place to stay.”
The Bed & Bread Club Radiothon serves as the primary source of funding for The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread program, which operates 365 days a year. The program provides more than 4,500 meals each day to individuals facing food insecurity and delivers nearly 200 nights of shelter daily to those without a safe place to stay. Additionally, Bed & Bread trucks travel designated routes throughout Detroit year-round, delivering hot meals and distributing essential items including hats, gloves, coats and blankets.
Since its inception in 1988, the Radiothon has raised $47,421,131 to support Detroiters in need.
