The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit to Keep Families Cool This Summer Through Great Lakes Ace Hardware Fan Drive

As temperatures begin to rise across Southeast Michigan, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is joining forces with Great Lakes Ace Hardware stores to help keep local families cool this summer through the annual Ace Hardware Fan Drive.  

Now through June 6, the Fan Drive will raise money to provide new box fans to individuals and families struggling to stay comfortable during the hot Michigan summer months. Customers can support the effort by rounding up their purchases or making a direct monetary donation at nearly 40 participating Great Lakes Ace Hardware stores across metro Detroit and online. Every dollar raised stays within the local community to help neighbors in need.  

Michigan summers can bring prolonged periods of extreme heat, which can be dangerous for older adults, young children and households without air conditioning. High temperatures can increase the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration and other heat-related illnesses, making access to cooling resources essential for vulnerable families.  

“Something as simple as a box fan can make a meaningful difference for a family facing extreme heat,” said Major Dawn Worthy, metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division. “Through the generosity of Great Lakes Ace Hardware customers and supporters, we will be able to provide relief to neighbors who may struggle during the hottest months of the year.” 

For more than a decade, Ace Retail Group has partnered with The Salvation Army to support neighbors in need through the annual Fan Drive, a longstanding collaboration rooted in service and community care. Together, this enduring partnership has given away more than 70,000 box fans to families, seniors, and individuals throughout the United States.
