Michigan Kiwanis Recognized for Outstanding Partnership with The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division recently recognized the Michigan District of Kiwanis for its outstanding support of the Red Kettle Campaign and its continued commitment to serving communities across the state. During the Michigan Kiwanis Statewide Conference, Captain Kenesa Debela, General Secretary of The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division, presented a special recognition award honoring Michigan Kiwanis for its partnership and impact. 

As the birthplace of Kiwanis International, the Michigan District has been serving children and communities since 1915. Guided by the theme "Kids Need Kiwanis," members are dedicated to strengthening communities through volunteer service, leadership development, and community engagement.

That commitment to service closely aligns with The Salvation Army's mission to share the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate service, bringing hope, practical assistance, and encouragement to individuals and families facing life's challenges. Through programs such as K-Kids, Builders Clubs, Key Clubs, Circle K International, and Aktion Clubs, Kiwanis develops future leaders while meeting needs in local communities.

During his remarks, Captain Debela thanked Michigan Kiwanis clubs for their dedication and generosity. He noted that Kiwanis was the second-highest fundraising service club partner in Michigan during the most recent Red Kettle Campaign, helping raise more than $65,081 to support Salvation Army programs throughout the state.

The impact of that partnership reaches far beyond fundraising. Support from volunteers, donors, and community partners helped The Salvation Army in Michigan provide more than 6.1 million meals, more than 1.7 million nights of shelter, and over 391,000 toys and gifts to children and shut-in seniors during the Christmas season.

The Salvation Army was honored to participate in this year's statewide conference. Captain Kenesa Debela was joined by Captain Shanell Debela, Metro Detroit Area Commander, as they expressed appreciation for the service and leadership of Kiwanis members across Michigan. Conference attendees also connected with Claire, The Salvation Army's Christmas and Volunteer Coordinator, who helped clubs begin registering for this year's Red Kettle Campaign and shared volunteer opportunities for the upcoming Christmas season.

The Salvation Army extends its sincere gratitude to Michigan Kiwanis and to the many service clubs and civic organizations across Michigan and the nation that partner in serving their communities. Together, these partnerships help bring hope, meet human needs, and transform lives every day.
