Your Donations Bring Stability and Critical Resources to Families at the Center of Hope
The Salvation Army Center of Hope continues its mission of caring for families experiencing homelessness by providing both practical assistance and opportunities for encouragement and personal growth. For example, during the month of June, the Center of Hope provided 1,371 nights of shelter and served 1,560 meals and snacks to families in need, ensuring that parents and children had a safe place to stay and nutritious meals during the challenging summer months.
Beyond meeting basic needs, the Center of Hope worked to create meaningful moments of joy and community for residents. Families enjoyed birthday celebrations, ice cream socials, and a special family movie night, offering welcome relief during a month marked by high temperatures and increased stress. These activities helped strengthen relationships among residents and reminded families that they are valued, supported, and not alone on their journey toward stability.
Education and personal development also remained a priority. The Center hosted five Life Skills classes in partnership with Hope Counseling and Consulting Services and other community partners. Topics included stress and anger management, mental health and coping skills, navigating Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for children, and strategies for reducing stress and anxiety. These sessions were well attended, with residents actively participating and gaining valuable tools to help them overcome challenges and build stronger futures for themselves and their families. Four residents successfully completed the Life Skills Program during June, marking an important milestone in their personal development.
The Center of Hope also extends heartfelt gratitude to the Super Supper Angels, whose generosity provided a special meal for resident families. Their faithful support continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those the Center serves.
In addition to shelter services, The Salvation Army's Social Services department continued to provide critical assistance throughout the community. Through the completion of the Forsyth Community Grant Fund, 38 families received nearly $35,000 in assistance during June for rent, rental deposits, and utility payments. The Share the Light Fund provided emergency assistance to four additional families in Stokes and Yadkin counties, while 21 bus passes were distributed to help clients access employment, medical appointments, and other essential services. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program also continued providing case management services to 16 veteran households.
As families face rising costs, housing challenges, and personal hardships, The Salvation Army remains committed to offering hope, practical assistance, and pathways to long-term stability. Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners, lives are being transformed every day across Forsyth, Stokes, and Yadkin counties.
