Young Leaders with a Big Impact
The Salvation Army of Eagle Creek gym was packed. Dozens of excited spectators were watching to see who the winner of the 2026 Dodging for Dollars dodgeball tournament would be, but behind all the excitement was a much bigger purpose.
The popular event is one of the many ways The Salvation Army Echelon of Indianapolis is giving back and making an impact in Central Indiana.
“We came up with the Dodging for Dollars event to help classrooms and local students,” said Jake Brown, Echelon of Indianapolis president. “This event is in January each year and it’s also a time where people may forget about students’ needs to upgrade their supplies or books during the school year.”
Echelon of Indianapolis launched in 2022 with a few members looking for new ways to support the Indianapolis community. The group of young professionals supports The Salvation Army through its own fundraising, volunteering, and advocacy. Echelon is designed to connect emerging leaders with a cause that helps their community thrive.
As the group has grown, Dodging for Dollars has become Echelon’s signature event. While the event is fun and competitive, the mission behind it is serious with a focus on giving back to the community.
Beyond event fundraising, Echelon likes to roll up their sleeves and work alongside The Salvation Army of Central Indiana. Members support programs like Angel Tree, which ensures local children wake up to gifts on Christmas morning. Their involvement brings fresh energy and new perspectives to programs and events.
One Echelon member, who works for Bridge Builder Strategies, is lending his expertise by guiding The Salvation Army’s Strategic Plan. This collaboration will help shape how The Salvation Army of Central Indiana will serve the community in the years to come, ensuring programs and services stay up to date.
“Echelon is about building lasting relationships with each other and with The Salvation Army,” explained Brown. “Our group is creating a pipeline of future advocates, donors, volunteers, and leaders who are invested in the mission of The Salvation Army.”
As the group continues to grow, The Salvation Army Echelon of Indianapolis is changing the way young professionals are making an impact close to home.
