“Jesus is the Son of God and So Much More”
While Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?" I ask us today, who do we say that Jesus is? When Jesus asked His disciple, Simon Peter answered quickly, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.” Can we (you and I) answer that question in this very moment?
Yes, Jesus is the Son of the living God, and in our devotional for today we will see that He is also:
I. THE POWER OF GOD
II. THE WISDOM OF GOD
III. THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD
IV. THE HOLINESS OF GOD
V. THE REDEMPTION OF GOD
Let’s begin our devotional for today with a prayer from the Psalmist who prayed the following in Psalm 106: 1-5:
“Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare His praise? Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Remember me, Lord, when You show favor to Your people, come to my aid when You save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of Your nation and join Your inheritance in giving praise.”
1 Jesus Is The Power Of God
1 Corinthians 1:24 (NLT)
But to those called by God to salvation,
both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the mighty
power of God and the wonderful wisdom of God.
For those of us who have asked Christ into our lives this means that the power of God, which is Jesus in us, is displayed for all to see, regardless of whether we are in our church community or outside of it.
General Fredrick Coutts in the Armory Commentary said: “Some of us fail to recognize the gospel as “good news,” viewing it rather as impossible idealism which makes life an insufferable burden. Christ is the power of God unto salvation, not the taskmaster of God unto distraction.”
Because we have the power of God, you and I can rise above anything Satan throws our way. The question is - are we living in His Power?
Not only is Jesus the Power of God…
II. Jesus Is The Wisdom Of God
1 Corinthians 1:24 (NLT)
But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,
Christ is the mighty power of God and the wonderful wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 1:30 a (KJV)
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom.
Christ Jesus is the wisdom of God – so where does that place us – if Jesus is God’s wisdom, what are we? Paul said to the Ephesians in:
Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)
So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise.
Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days.
Don't act thoughtlessly but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do.
That’s what we are! We should be wise just as Jesus is. Paul says to the Ephesians and to us that we should understand what the Lord wants us to do. He says DON’T BE FOOLS! Rather, be wise making the most of every opportunity.
Friends, listen to me. It is only in following Jesus that we walk correctly and in listening to Jesus that we hear the truth. And you and I both know that the truth will set us free.
Jesus is the Power & wisdom of God and…
III. Jesus Is The Righteousness Of God
1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus,
who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness.
In the writings of Paul, righteousness always means a right relationship with God. On our own you and I can never, ever achieve righteousness. It is only ours by realizing through Jesus Christ that it comes not from what we can do for God, but from what God has done for us.
How’s your relationship this very moment with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Do you have a right relationship with the one who gave His life upon the cross? Think about it, let that sink in…do you?
Folks! Jesus is the Power, Wisdom and Righteousness of God! And…
IV. Jesus Is The Holiness Of God
1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and
righteousness, and sanctification.
It is only in the presence of Christ Jesus that life can be what it ought to be. It’s like the chorus William Himes penned:
All that I am, all I can be, all that I have, all that is me,
Accept and use, Lord, as you would choose, Lord,
Right now, today! Take every passion, every skill,
Take all my dreams and bend them to your will.
My all I give, Lord; for you I'll live, Lord,
Come what may.
It’s only in Christ that God can have all that we are!
The Greek Philosopher Epicurus was noted with saying to his followers, “live as if I always saw you.” There is no as if about our relationship with Christ. The Christian walks with Him and talks with Him and only in that kind of relationship can you and I keep our garments unspotted from the world.
As Salvationist, “We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Jesus Christ is the Holiness of God, and He died upon the cross to make us holy. He is the power of God, the wisdom of God and the righteousness of God.
How do you stack up against that? Are you any where close to exemplifying that to those around you? When people look at you do they see these attributes in you or do they see something else?
Do they see Jesus? That’s whose image we were created in, and if they are seeing something else it’s because we are permitting it, and friends we are THEREFORE living in SIN!
Let’s nail our short comings, our SIN to the Cross once and for all. AMEN!
The last thing I want us to look at is…
V. Jesus Is The Redemption Of God
1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.
People will go to any length and spend money out the ying – yang to solve their problems or to be delivered from this problem or that, and many never realize that the answer to their problems is simply waiting for them to come to Him.
That’s why our ARC’s are so effective because we believe that the only way to conquer the addiction of alcohol or other drugs is through the redeeming power of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ can and will deliver you from your past sin, from your present helplessness and from your future fear. He is the great emancipator from slavery – He has redeemed us by shedding His blood upon the cross for each of us and for the world.
Folks - Jesus is…The Power, Wisdom, Righteousness, Holiness and Redemption of God. And so much more!
ARE WE LIVING UP TO WHAT JESUS THE CHRIST HAS DONE FOR US?
Are we showing Him off in everything that we are doing? In the song, “Before The Throne Of God Above,” The writer penned these words:
My name is graven in His hands, my name is written on His heart.
Who made an end to all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my
soul is purchased by His blood. My life is hid with Christ on high.
The writer ended his song with these words: With Christ my Savior and my God.
I believe the writer was leaving us with a profound statement that when you and I recognize Jesus the Christ and God in our individual lives we can do all things and the scripture tells us that we are strengthened because of it.
Don’t lay your head upon your pillow tonight without making sure that you have that relationship with Jesus Christ and then be what His Word tells you to be. It will describe for you exactly how a Christian is to live.
Let’s be real! We have enough fake Christians running around acting the part without the relationship – we don’t need any more! If you have not been living out these attributes, stop reading and make a new commitment to be a true follower of Christ!
He is waiting for you to come home and become a child of His so that He can save you and sanctify you so that you can be used of Him to shake up your community for the Kingdom of God.

OUR CORPORATE PRAYER
Father, we step into Your presence in an attitude of prayer and we want you to know that we love You, and we Your redeemed people praise you for who You are. We worship You in this hour and we wait this day upon Your prescious Holy Spirit to fall upon us afresh and anew. All glory and honor is due Your name and we ask You to forgive us of our sins of omission and comission, that we might join You in our various communities as blood bought children of the most high.
