Vigo and Sullivan County Red Kettles Getting Extra Boost November 24-26
Local businessman Bob Baesler challenges shoppers to also be generous as they shop for Thanksgiving
The Red Kettles have returned to Baesler's Market and owner Bob Baesler is celebrating with a special gift to The Salvation Army in recognition of the Red Kettles placed at locations in Sullivan and Terre Haute.
November 24, 25, and 26 Bob Baesler is challenging shoppers at Baesler's Market to match his $4,000 gift, which will be split evenly between both communities. Ringers at the Baesler's Market in Sullivan, located at 227 S. Section Street, and the Terre Haute store, located at 2900 Poplar Street, will be encouraging shoppers to put a little extra change into each Red Kettle in hopes of raising at least $4,000 over the course of the three-day promotion.
“I was honored they wanted to start here,” Bob Baesler said. “It’s a great cause, and the need is tremendous. It’s greater this year than ever. Fortunately, we have a lot of generous people in this community, so we’re blessed.”
The timing of the challenge has special meaning with the Thanksgiving holidays bringing families together in gratitude and reflection. The Salvation Army is hopeful that shoppers will be inspired by Mr. Baesler's gift and will dig a little deeper in their pockets before leaving the stores with their Thanksgiving dinner provisions.
"We really appreciate the generosity of Mr. Baesler and are reminded of the many blessings that we are thankful for not only during this season but all through the year," said Major Tim Parker with The Salvation Army of Terre Haute. "His gift will help us to continue to assist us meet human need in Vigo County and we are grateful for his continued partnership with The Salvation Army."
The annual Red Kettle campaign officially kicked off earlier this month and will run through Christmas Eve. Volunteer bell ringers are still needed to help make this vital fundraising campaign successful. "Money taken in at Baesler's is an important part of the funding that we will use to help families with groceries, rent, and utility bills in 2026," said Michele Smith with The Salvation Army of Sullivan County. "The $2,000 donation from Bob Baesler and his store will enable us to help even more families in need."
Funds raised in each community will stay in that community to support ministries and programs throughout 2026. Stay informed of The Salvation Army's activities in Vigo and Sullivan County this fall by following them on Facebook:
