Transforming Lives: The Salvation Army Unveils ‘Renovation Hope’
>PITTSBURGH (June 24, 2026) – The Salvation Army was proud to celebrate the completion of Renovation Hope project at The Salvation Army Family Caring Center, a vital safe haven for families experiencing homelessness in Pittsburgh. Through the thoughtful selection of colors, materials and furniture, the shelter’s common areas have been transformed into warm, welcoming spaces.
Renovation Hope was made possible thanks to generous community and corporate partners, including Russell Wilson and Ciara's Why Not You Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of the foundation, along with a matching donation from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the dining hall has been transformed into a vibrant community space that provides not only nourishment for the body, but also inspiration for the mind to lead each day with a ‘why not you attitude’. Guided by the Why Not You philosophy of empowerment, this space will bring people together, foster connection and encourage individuals to reach their full potential.
This unique shelter serving the Pittsburgh area offers apartment-style living and allows all members of the family – men, women and children of all ages – to remain together in a secure environment. While our recent open house was a success, the true impact happens the moment a family walks through the doors. Because of the love poured into this redesign, they will immediately feel safe, valued and reminded of their dignity. They deserve a true home, not just a place to lay their heads. Ultimately, these common areas will build a community where every individual knows they belong. Click here to watch the news story from WPXI.
